June 18th – Trip to Beethoven in San Antonio
You need to sign up at the Picnic!

I like to thank all the members who hosted a member(s) from the Böhmertaler Blasmusik. They all had a great time here in New Braunfels. I was disappointed that not more members of our Verein had attended the free concert.

Spaßzeit für alle!
(Fun Time For All!)
What a wonderful treat it was for us to be able to hear an authentic German zither player at last month's meeting. Hans Waskoenig from Germany entertained our group with many familiar, and some not so familiar, German tunes. Everyone got in on the act when it came time for the sing along.

At next month's picnic in the park, we will once again be able to enjoy the special talents of Kevin Hatcher and Robert Atwood. These two men have played for us several times, and each time everyone enjoys hearing them play their favorite German tunes. They will be playing from 6:30 until 8:30 for our listening pleasure, so be sure to come and enjoy them.

Wine & Saenger Fest
Help Wanted
The salary is non- taxable!!! Of course, you have to be present to make a direct withdrawal. This is because the compensation is in the form of liquid refreshment and good smells, with a big helping of being surrounded by other happy fun loving like minded people and good music.
As you know, we are again participating in the New Braunfels “Wine and Saengerfest”. If this sounds good to you, please come help me make a lot of hungry people to be as happy as we are. I want to thank those of you who, in the past, have helped our Society build the funds which make it possible for our whole Society to enjoy all the fun times we have had over the last year. The amount of funds we have available for fun and service to the community is a direct result of your work. The more money we make, the more fun we can have.
So, I am again asking for help for an hour or two or three or all afternoon on May 1st. I particularly need volunteers to assist the cooking guys (or gals) during time between 2:00 and closing. Activities include things like passing cooked or raw chops or brats between the coolers and the cooks and the sales persons. So, if you are willing, we will find a task for you.
Please call me at 620-6787 or on my cell at 660-4866 or if you prefer, e-mail me at wmoltz@satx.rr.com and I will find a time convenient for you.
Thanks
Bill

Reminder
For those interested in the history of German singing in and around the City, remember to attend the dedication of the Denkmal in Landa Park at 10:00 Saturday, May 1.
The Denkmal is being placed in honor of all the German singers and singing organizations which were located in and around the city since the early history of New Braunfels. Of course, the Gemischter Chor Harmonie is the very last of these early groups still active in the area.
The location is between the “Big Oak” and the site of our annual picnic. The Mayor and other dignitaries are expected to attend. German singing will be offered by the Gemischter Chor and the Kinder Chor.
Call or e-mail Bill Moltz if you have questions. For contact information see “Help Wanted” article in this issue.

(Annual Picnic)
Don't forget our annual picnic in Landa Park at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4th. We'll be in Pavilions #4 & #5, near the dance slab. The meal is free for members and $5.00 for each guest. Members are asked to bring side dishes, such as salads, vegetables, & deserts. Please bring enough to serve 8 to 10 people. If your last name begins with letter A through K, bring a desert ... or, L through Z, bring a salad or a vegetable.
Kevin & Robert will begin playing great music at 6:30.
If you can help with the set-up, call Barry Irwin at 620-0369, or just show up early. See you there!

Upcoming Bus Trip
Join us for a few hours of Gemütlichkeit, which means Beer, Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, Wine, Goulash, Strudel, Sing-a-longs, Kameradschaft with your friends, and more Beer. This will be on Friday, June 18th, 2010. We will leave on a nice bus at 5 pm from the Kohl's parking lot and will be back around 11 pm. The price is $10 per person and, friends, I tell you, that is a bargain. You do NOT have to mess with San Antonio traffic or find a parking space. The bus will drop us off at the front gate of the gardens. Beethoven Gardens will admit us for free and, afterwards, we will be picked up at the front gate to ride back home. Anybody who has been on a trip like this with the German American Club can tell you how much fun we have lubricating our voices at Beethoven's and then singing on the way home. The Beethoven Concert Band and the New Braunfels Village Brass Band will play the best German music for miles around. There will be a sign-up sheet at the picnic and the June meeting. Please pay when you sign up to get a seat on the bus.

Kluge Ideen
(Clever Ideas)
To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

Witze

Before I make my final decision, can I ask the
audience or call a friend?

"Mein Opa ist achtzig Jahre und joggt noch jeden Morgen drei Kilometer."
"Toll, und was macht er am Nachmittag?"
"Da macht er sich auf den Heimweg."
